Manuel Akanji’s future at Borussia Dortmund remains uncertain with the club yet to receive a concrete offer for the defender.

There has been plenty of speculation about Manuel Akanji’s future in recent weeks. And Sebastian Kehl confirmed last month that the defender does not want to extend his contract with Borussia Dortmund. Manchester United, Juventus and Arsenal have all been linked with a move for Akanji.

But according to Ruhr Nachrichten, the Black and Yellows have yet to receive a concrete offer for his signature. Akanji has just one year left on his Borussia Dortmund contract. And since he has refused to sign an extension, the BVB bosses want to sell him this summer in order to avoid losing him on a free transfer next summer.

Akanji was one of the most consistent performers in Borussia Dortmund’s defence in the recently concluded season. But the 26 year old is now looking for a new challenge, and Dortmund have moved quickly to replace him by signing Niklas Süle and Nico Schlotterbeck.

Akanji is currently on Switzerland duty, but has missed their first two games due to knee problems. It remains to be seen if he will be fit in time for their game against Spain on Thursday.

Borussia Dortmund reportedly want a transfer fee of 25 million euros for the sale of Akanji. Kehl and co. will certainly be keen to ensure that the defender’s future can be resolved as soon as possible, so that they can free up funds to further strengthen their squad.
