Jude Bellingham and Nico Schlotterbeck were both involved as England and Germany played out a 1-1 draw in the UEFA Nations League.
It was honours even in the heavyweight UEFA Nations League clash between Germany and England on Wednesday evening. Borussia Dortmund duo Jude Bellingham and Nico Schlotterbeck both featured in what was an absorbing contest at the Allianz Arena in Munich.
Schlotterbeck played from the start for Germany, while Bellingham came on for England in the first half following an injury to Kalvin Phillips. After a goalless first half, it was Germany who took the lead, with former Borussia Dortmund player Jonas Hofmann beating Jordan Pickford with a thunderous strike after running on to Joshua Kimmich’s pass.
Germany appeared to be edging towards a hard earned win, but England were awarded a penalty in the 87th minute after Nico Schlotterbeck was adjudged to have fouled Harry Kane inside the box.
The referee gave England a penalty after taking a look at his pitch-side monitor despite the fact that Kane appeared to be offside and there was minimal contact between the two players. The England captain made no mistake from the spot and helped his national team earn a share of the spoils.
Niklas Süle and Julian Brandt were both unused substitutes for Germany, while Karim Adeyemi was not included in the squad by Hansi Flick. And Marco Reus missed the game, having just returned to training after recovering from his illness.
Elsewhere, Salih Özcan played 90 minutes as Turkey cruised to a 6-0 win over Lithuania in their UEFA Nations League group. It was the new Borussia Dortmund signing’s first ever start for Turkey.
