Erling Haaland joins Manchester City on a five year deal
Manchester City have announced the arrival of Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund, with the striker joining the club on a five year contract.
Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City reached an agreement in principle over the transfer of Erling Haaland last month. And now the Norwegian international has finally sealed his move to the English Premier League, signing a five year contract with the defending champions.
Erling Haaland follows in the footsteps of his father Alfie, who played for Manchester City in the early 2000s. And the striker is determined to score lots of goals and win trophies in Manchester.
"“There are so many world-class players in this squad and Pep [Guardiola] is one of the greatest managers of all-time, so I believe I am in the right place to fulfil my ambitions,” Haaland said. “I want to score goals, win trophies and improve as a footballer and I am confident I can do that here.”"
Haaland joined Borussia Dortmund from RB Salzburg in January 2020 and it did not take him long to make an impact. He marked his debut with a match-winning hat-trick off the bench and went on to score 86 goals in just 89 appearances for the Black and Yellows.
Haaland’s performances saw him attract the interest of some of Europe’s biggest clubs. Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Manchester United and Chelsea were all interested in signing the 21 year old. But it was Manchester City who won the race for his signature in the end.
With Haaland’s departure now confirmed, Borussia Dortmund will set their sights on signing a new striker to replace him. Dortmund have been linked with a number of strikers in recent weeks. VfB Stuttgart striker Sasa Kalajdzic is considered to be the frontrunner, and talks between the two parties are set to intensify soon. Ajax striker Sebastien Haller is also said to be on Dortmund’s list of targets.
