Borussia Dortmund have appointed Christian Preußer as the head coach of their U-23s team following Enrico Maaßen’s decision to join FC Augsburg.

Christian Preußer has been confirmed as the new head coach of the Borussia Dortmund U-23s. The 38 year old moves to Dortmund on a two year contract and will replace Enrico Maaßen, who was appointed FC Augsburg head coach earlier this month.

A number of names were linked with the Borussia Dortmund II job. But they ultimately decided to go with Preußer, who last coached Fortuna Düsseldorf.

Christian Preußer began his coaching career at Rot-Weiß Erfurt, before taking over at SC Freiburg II. He spent five years with Freiburg’s U-23s team and guided them from the fifth division of German football to the 3. Liga. He left SC Freiburg II last summer to join 2. Bundesliga side Fortuna Düsseldorf, but parted ways with them in February.

An intriguing new challenge now awaits Preußer at Borussia Dortmund II, where he will look to build on the impressive work done by Enrico Maaßen over the last two years.

The BVB U-23s players have already returned to training ahead of the start of the new season. The 2022/23 3. Liga season is scheduled to get underway on 22 July, 2022.

Borussia Dortmund II managed to finish ninth in the 3. Liga standings this season despite being forced to deal with a host of injury problems. They have made a number of changes to their squad this summer. BVB II have already signed eight new players this summer, and a number of important players have also left the club.
