Borussia Dortmund complete the signing of Sébastien Haller
Borussia Dortmund have completed the signing of Sébastien Haller on a four year deal from Ajax Amsterdam. The former Eintracht Frankfurt and West Ham striker joins the club after his most prolific season yet in Ajax’s colours, scoring a total of 34 goals and assisting a further nine.
The Ivory Coast international joins Borussia Dortmund as the club’s replacement for Erling Haaland. The signing of Haller is very different from the type of deal Dortmund usually look to pursue; namely, he is a player in his prime rather than a young talent yet to be moulded into a future star.
In Haller, Borussia Dortmund have secured the services of a strong number nine who will serve as one of the main focal points of Edin Terzic’s new look Dortmund attack.
Alongside newcomer Karim Adeyemi and Dutch international Donyell Malen, Haller will be charged with leading the line for the Ruhr club as they seek to mount a challenge against Bayern Munich for the Bundesliga title next season.
Sébastien Haller said that he is looking forward to playing in front of more than 80,000 fans at the Signal Iduna Park and leading Borussia Dortmund to success.
"“I can’t wait to feel the support of over 80,000 spectators as part of the BVB family in the future. Together, I hope that we will be able to achieve great things in the coming years and also celebrate together.”"
There has been a varying opinion on whether Haller is indeed the man that Borussia Dortmund need to lead their line next season. While some may have their doubts, the club and fans alike will certainly hope that the Ivory Coast international is indeed up to the task and brings the performances necessary to help lift the club towards its overarching goals in the coming years.
