Matthias Sammer believes that Borussia Dortmund can be a major contender to win the Bundesliga title this season, but they must find a way to be more consistent.

The excitement is very high going into the new season following Borussia Dortmund’s squad overhaul. The Black and Yellows have transformed their squad with a number of shrewd signings, and there is hope that they will be able to challenge Bayern Munich for the Bundesliga title.

But former BVB player and current external advisor Matthias Sammer believes that they must find more consistency in their game if they want to take the fight to Bayern Munich this season. In an interview with Sächsischen Zeitung, Sammer said:

"“The team shouldn’t just play well when the sun is shining, when all the mechanisms are running and when there is a team dynamic that gets people excited. We must also be able to show our quality on rainy days when there is resistance and setbacks… Borussia Dortmund has not demonstrated this consistency at the top level in recent seasons.”"

Sammer, who became the first Borussia Dortmund player to win the Ballon d’Or when he won the award in 1996, is said to be a big fan of new head coach Edin Terzic. And he believes that the goal for the 39 year old will be to ensure that his team can perform at a high level on a consistent basis over the course of the season.

Despite Borussia Dortmund’s impressive squad overhaul, Sammer believes that Bayern Munich are the favourites to win the Bundesliga title in the coming season. The 54 year old also expects RB Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen to be in contention.
