Borussia Dortmund vs Villarreal: Pre-season friendly preview, live stream info

Borussia Dortmund will go up against Villarreal CF on Friday in their final pre-season friendly before their first competitive game of the campaign.

Borussia Dortmund will head to Austria once again on Friday to take on La Liga side Villarreal CF in a pre-season friendly. With the first competitive game of the season just one week away, this test match will give Edin Terzic the opportunity to build his players’ match rhythm ahead of the new season.

This will be Borussia Dortmund’s second pre-season friendly of the week, after they were handed a 3-1 defeat by Valencia CF on Monday. The Black and Yellows then received the shock news of Sebastien Haller’s illness, and the striker is now back in Dortmund to undergo further tests.

The majority of the players who played on Monday should be available for Friday’s game. Terzic will also be hoping to have Donyell Malen and Emre Can back in the squad. While new signing Salih Özcan remains a doubt. Mateu Morey was an unused substitute on Monday, and he could potentially be in line for his first appearance since May 2021 on Friday.

Terzic went with the 4-2-3-1 formation on Monday, with Youssoufa Moukoko starting up front, Karim Adeyemi playing down the right and Marco Reus in the number ten role. But a line-up with three at the back is also a possibility, as Terzic hinted earlier this week.

Villarreal have a number of talented players in their squad, including former Borussia Dortmund striker Paco Alcacer. Although the striker’s future has come under a bit of doubt in recent weeks, and it remains to be seen if he will feature against his former club.
