Thomas Meunier excited about Borussia Dortmund’s new signings
Thomas Meunier believes that Borussia Dortmund’s new signings are fitting in very nicely ahead of what promises to be a very exciting season for the team.
Borussia Dortmund have been very busy in the transfer market this summer, bringing in eight new players. And Thomas Meunier is confident that the Black and Yellows’ new signings will bolster the team in the coming season. The right-back believes that the new signings have the mentality needed to help the team succeed.
"In an interview with Kicker, Meunier said: “Of course, the discovery of Sebastien Haller’s tumour a week ago was a shock for all of us, and it also put a damper on things. But when I look at our training, I see a lot of quality. Our new players are fitting in very nicely. Because they have what it takes in footballing terms. But also because they are fighters.”“That’s exactly what we need: players who are ready to give everything to win. We don’t need world class players, we need players who have their hearts in the right place.”"
Thomas Meunier is going into his third season with Borussia Dortmund. The former Paris St. Germain player endured a difficult start to his BVB career, and was dropped by Edin Terzic when the latter was interim head coach during the 2020/21 season.
But Meunier does not have any issues with Terzic, who is now back in the dugout as permanent head coach. And after delivering much improved performances last season, the 30 year old is keen to make a similar impact this season.
"“Edin (Terzic) was in a situation where he had to try everything to save this club. We were in a very difficult situation. He did his job then and stabilized us. I don’t blame him for the fact that I didn’t play regularly. He had the team in mind and got the best out of it.”“And, I have to be honest with myself, I simply wasn’t good enough back then. Now it’s back to square one – and I’ll do everything I can to get into the team.”"
After missing the final two months of last season due to a thigh injury, Meunier is now fully fit once again. He is set to start the new season as Borussia Dortmund’s first-choice right-back. And he will certainly have to be at his very best if BVB are to challenge Bayern Munich for the Bundesliga title.
Thomas Meunier has made 59 appearances for Borussia Dortmund so far, scoring three goals and assisting a further seven. He has two years left on his current contract with the club.
