Borussia Dortmund begin their DFB-Pokal journey on Friday evening as they square off against third division side 1860 Munich.

The Edin Terzic era officially gets underway on Friday as Borussia Dortmund go up against 1860 Munich in the first round of the DFB-Pokal. We should be in for a very exciting contest between two traditional clubs with plenty of history.

The DFB-Pokal will be high on BVB’s list of priorities for this season, and they will be eager to begin their season with a comfortable win. But 1860 Munich will certainly be keen to make things difficult for the Black and Yellows, just like they did when these two sides last met in the 2013/14 season.

1860 Munich narrowly missed out on promotion to the 2. Bundesliga last season, and began their 3. Liga campaign with a 4-3 win away to Dynamo Dresden last weekend.

Borussia Dortmund suffered a big blow in their preparations for the new season last week as it was revealed that Sebastien Haller will be sidelined for an indefinite period due to illness. Fellow new signing Salih Özcan will also miss Friday’s game, having missed the majority of pre-season due to an injury.

Gregor Kobel and Mahmoud Dahoud are expected to be available after missing the pre-season friendly against Villarreal last weekend. Emre Can is also fit again, but Tom Rothe and Felix Passlack are sidelined.

Edin Terzic went with a three at the back formation for the pre-season friendly against Villarreal, and we could see Borussia Dortmund line up in a similar fashion on Friday.

1860 Munich midfielders Yannick Deichmann and Joseph Boyamba are both injury doubts going into the game. Marcel Bär scored a brace against Dynamo Dresden last weekend and could lead the line for his side on Friday.
