Hans-Joachim Watzke confirms Borussia Dortmund will sign another striker soon
Hans-Joachim Watzke has revealed that Borussia Dortmund are planning to sign a new striker, adding that putting all the responsibility on Youssoufa Moukoko’s shoulders would be asking too much of him.
Borussia Dortmund are in the market for a new striker, Hans-Joachim Watzke has indicated. With Sebastien Haller set to be sidelined for the next few months after being diagnosed with a malignant testicular tumour, the Black and Yellows will be active again in the transfer market.
In an interview with Sportschau, Watzke revealed that Borussia Dortmund will look to sign a new striker in the coming days. But the BVB CEO also added that it is not easy to find a good solution due to a lack of available options.
"“To put everything on Youssoufa Moukoko’s shoulders now – he’s 17 years old – that would be a bit too much. So I think we’ll do something again in terms of our personnel. But it’s difficult to find a really good solution, because there aren’t exactly many players on the market.”“Ideally, something should happen in the next eight to ten days.”"
Borussia Dortmund have been linked with a number of strikers in recent weeks, including Anthony Modeste (FC Köln), Marcus Thuram (Borussia Mönchengladbach), Arkadiusz Milik (Olympique Marseille), Krzysztof Piątek (Hertha BSC), and Giovanni Simeone (Hellas Verona).
BILD claimed earlier this week that the BVB bosses have also held talks with former Manchester United and Paris St. Germain striker Edinson Cavani. But it remains to be seen if they will be able to afford him.
Borussia Dortmund are looking for a striker who would be willing to join the club on a short-term contract. And with only limited funds available, the BVB bosses do not have too many options to choose from.
Borussia Dortmund are set to begin their Bundesliga campaign this weekend as they go up against Bayer Leverkusen at the Signal Iduna Park.
