Borussia Dortmund vs Bayer Leverkusen: Bundesliga Team News
By Tushar Bahl
Borussia Dortmund will kick-start their Bundesliga campaign this weekend with a home game against Bayer Leverkusen.
The 2022/23 Bundesliga season is set to get underway this weekend and a crunch game awaits Borussia Dortmund on matchday one as they take on Bayer Leverkusen. Games between these two teams always produce plenty of goals, and we should be in for another lively contest on Saturday evening.
There is plenty of optimism surrounding Borussia Dortmund going into the new season, and the hope is that they will be able to compete for the Bundesliga title this season. Edin Terzic will be keen to ensure that his team can start the season with a statement win against Bayer Leverkusen.
Borussia Dortmund will have to make do without Niklas Süle this weekend, although Terzic revealed during his pre-match press conference that the defender is free of any pain and shouldn’t be out for too long. Fellow new signing Salih Özcan returned to training earlier this week, and could be on the bench on Saturday.
Gio Reyna and Mateu Morey are highly unlikely to feature, while Felix Passlack and Tom Rothe remain sidelined with their respective injuries.
Bayer Leverkusen are still smarting from their shock defeat to third division side SV Elversberg in the first round of the DFB-Pokal. But after finishing third last season, they will be keen to compete for the Bundesliga title this time around.
Die Werkself have also bolstered their squad with a number of shrewd signings. And they will be hoping for a repeat of what happened on their last trip to the Signal Iduna Park, when they came away with a 5-2 win.
Bayer Leverkusen will be without highly rated duo Florian Wirtz and Amine Adli on Saturday. But Gerardo Seoane should have the rest of his squad available to him. Adam Hlozek will be keen to impress on his Bundesliga debut.
