Borussia Dortmund have completed the signing of Anthony Modeste from FC Köln, with the striker joining the club on a one year contract.

Borussia Dortmund have reinforced their attack with the signing of Anthony Modeste from FC Köln. The 34 year old joins the Black and Yellows on a one year contract, and will act as the short-term replacement for Sebastien Haller.

The BVB bosses made the decision to sign another striker after Sebastien Haller was diagnosed with a malignant testicular tumour that will keep him sidelined for the next few months. And they have found their short-term solution in Modeste, who is a proven goalscorer with plenty of Bundesliga experience.

Modeste’s performances last season helped the Billy Goats finish seventh in the Bundesliga standings and qualify for the UEFA Europa Conference League. But he recently hinted that he would be open to a move away from the club. And now he joins Borussia Dortmund, where he could well have an important role to play this season.

Modeste scored 20 goals in just 32 Bundesliga appearances for FC Köln last season. Ten of those goals were headers, and he will certainly add a new dimension to Borussia Dortmund’s attacking play.

According to various reports in Germany, FC Köln will receive a transfer fee of just under five million euros for Modeste. The striker could make his Borussia Dortmund debut on Friday in the Bundesliga clash against SC Freiburg.
