Final thoughts and looking ahead

Overall, when looking back at Saturday’s game, the general consensus is one of optimism. Borussia Dortmund’s defense, while not exactly perfect, looked far more organized and harder to overrun than it has in quite some time.

Nico Schlotterbeck certainly looks like a player Dortmund desperately needed to join their ranks, with his football acumen and athletic style of play likely to help make life far more difficult for the team’s opponents going forward.

BVB still need to find more of a rhythm going forward, but the talent is certainly there for Edin Terzić to work with.

Borussia Dortmund’s next opponents will be SC Freiburg this coming Friday. Schlotterbeck will face a very early return to his previous club, and will hopefully continue to put in the performances needed to keep Dortmund from conceding too many goals.

Borussia Dortmund will also have signed FC Köln striker Anthony Modeste by then. The experienced Frenchman could add an additional dimension to Dortmund’s game for the near future. There is no doubt BVB will have to be creative to win against Freiburg at their home ground, as they are not an opponent to be taken lightly.
