Report: Inter Milan remain keen on Manuel Akanji but asking price is an issue
Manuel Akanji is said to be Inter Milan’s preferred target as they look to bolster their defence. But the costs required to sign him could force them to look elsewhere.
There are just three weeks left before the transfer window closes, but Manuel Akanji’s future remains up in the air. The Switzerland international has rejected Borussia Dortmund’s offer of a contract extension, and the BVB bosses are keen to part ways with him this summer.
The Black and Yellows have yet to receive a concrete offer for Akanji. But according to Gianluca Di Marzio, he remains Inter Milan’s ideal candidate as they look to bolster their defence in the coming weeks. However, the 27 year old could prove to be too expensive for last season’s Serie A runners-up. And they are looking at Lazio’s Francesco Acerbi as a potential low-cost alternative.
Borussia Dortmund reportedly want a transfer fee in the region of 20 million euros for Akanji. But it remains to be seen if Inter Milan or any other club would be willing to pay that amount in the coming weeks.
The defender has less than one year left on his BVB contract, and he would be able to leave the club on a free transfer next summer.
Manuel Akanji has been frozen out of the Borussia Dortmund squad for the time being due to the uncertainty surrounding his future. The BVB bosses will certainly be hoping that a buyer can be found for him before the transfer window closes. Otherwise, they could face a very difficult decision next month.
