Manuel Akanji remains Inter Milan’s number one target as they look to bolster their defence, and the player is said to be pushing for a move to Italy.

Manuel Akanji’s future remains unresolved heading into the final two weeks of the transfer window. The Switzerland international has been frozen out for now by Borussia Dortmund, who are keen to part ways with him this summer. Inter Milan are interested in signing Akanji, and reports in Italy claim that they are ready to make their move for the defender after reaching an agreement with Chelsea for the sale of Cesare Casadei.

However, Inter Milan are not willing to meet Borussia Dortmund’s asking price of around 20 million euros due to their budget constraints. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Black and Yellows are now also open to Akanji signing a one-year contract extension and joining Inter Milan on a loan deal. But they want a mandatory purchase clause to be included in the deal.

Akanji’s current contract is set to expire at the end of the season, and Borussia Dortmund would risk losing him on a free transfer if he cannot be sold this summer.

The Nerazzurri are in no rush, and they are also looking at a few cheaper alternatives in case a move for Akanji does not materialise. Francesco Acerbi and Japhet Tanganga are said to be the other names they are considering.

The report adds that Inter Milan are waiting to receive the green light from club president Steven Zhang before making their bid to sign Akanji. So it still remains to be seen what the future will hold for the 27 year old.
