Borussia Dortmund to begin UEFA Champions League campaign against FC Copenhagen
Borussia Dortmund will begin their UEFA Champions League campaign at home to Danish side FC Copenhagen, before squaring off against Manchester City on matchday two.
The full schedule for the 2022/23 UEFA Champions League group stage has been released, and Borussia Dortmund will kick-start their campaign at home to Danish Superliga champions FC Copenhagen. The game will take place on Tuesday, September 06 with kick-off at 18:45 CEST.
The Black and Yellows will then travel to Group G favourites Manchester City a week later to take on the English Premier League champions. There will be a reunion with former Borussia Dortmund trio Erling Haaland, Ilkay Gündoğan and Sergio Gomez. The game against Manchester City will be sandwiched between crunch Bundesliga fixtures against RB Leipzig and Schalke 04.
Matchday three of the UEFA Champions League group stage will see Borussia Dortmund travel to Sevilla. The game on October 05 will take place just three days before Edin Terzic’s side host Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich.
Borussia Dortmund will then welcome Thomas Delaney and co. to the Signal Iduna Park on October 11. The two games against Sevilla will no doubt be crucial to BVB’s hopes of progressing to the round of 16.
The penultimate matchday of the group stage will see Borussia Dortmund host Manchester City. BVB will then conclude the group stage with a trip to Denmark to face FC Copenhagen on November 02.
With the FIFA World Cup taking place in November and December this year, the schedule for the UEFA Champions League group stage is heavily condensed. Borussia Dortmund will be aiming to qualify for the knockout rounds this season after failing to do so last year.
