Sebastian Kehl has revealed that Sebastien Haller is making good progress in his recovery from a malignant testicular tumour.

It was revealed last month that Sebastien Haller is fighting a malignant testicular tumour and will have to undergo chemotherapy treatment. The Borussia Dortmund striker is currently on the road to recovery, and Sebastian Kehl gave an update on his health on Sunday evening.

During an appearance on Sky90, the BVB sporting director revealed that Haller is making good progress.

"“He is doing very well. He has made progress in his cycles. He’s going to need a little bit longer, of course, but he’s very hopeful, he’s very positive. I was inspired with how he and his family have handled everything. But that also shows what kind of personality he has. Of course, we all have the hope that he will come back as soon as possible.”"

Haller, who joined Borussia Dortmund from Dutch side AFC Ajax last month, complained of feeling unwell during the club’s pre-season training camp in Switzerland. He then underwent medical examinations and a testicular tumour was discovered. The 28 year old then successfully underwent surgery and is currently undergoing a course of chemotherapy treatment.

It remains to be seen how long Haller will be sidelined for. But Sebastian Kehl said last month that the chances of recovery are very good. And there is hope that the striker will be back on the pitch in the coming months.

Borussia Dortmund brought in Anthony Modeste as the short-term replacement for Sebastien Haller earlier this month. But he has only been signed on a one-year contract. And the plan is for the Ivory Coast international to return as the team’s first-choice striker once he has fully recovered from his illness.
