Report: FC Barcelona to make late push to sign Thomas Meunier
Thomas Meunier could make a late move away from Borussia Dortmund, with reports in Spain claiming that FC Barcelona want to sign him before the transfer window closes.
FC Barcelona have made signing a new right-back their priority for the final few days of the transfer window, and Thomas Meunier is said to be their main target. According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona have almost reached an agreement on personal terms with the Belgian international.
However, other reports claim that the Spanish giants are looking to sign Hector Bellerin as they believe a deal for the Borussia Dortmund right-back would be too complicated to pull off this late in the transfer window.
BILD claim that Borussia Dortmund have not yet received an offer for Meunier. BVB sporting director Sebastian Kehl said last week that they are not planning to sell the 30 year old before the transfer window closes. It will be interesting to see if their stance changes before the transfer deadline day on Thursday.
Meunier began the season as Borussia Dortmund’s first choice right-back, but lost his spot in the team two weeks ago. Marius Wolf has started BVB’s last two games, but Meunier did replace him in the second half of Saturday’s win over Hertha Berlin. The former Paris St. Germain defender’s potential exit this late in the transfer window would certainly leave Dortmund short of options at right-back.
Thomas Meunier, who joined Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer in 2020, still has two years left on his current contract with the club.
