Raphaël Guerreiro (8/10)

Rapha put in a rather impressive performance for BVB today. Not only did find himself on the scoresheet with a nice team goal, but he had one of the better defensive performances of his career today. Guerreiro won all but two of his eleven duels, had five tackles, and added two interceptions to that tally. After a summer of near-constant criticism of his defensive abilities, Rapha did well to show his quality today on Europe’s biggest stage.

Niklas Süle (7/10)

Niklas Süle made his return to the starting line-up after nearly a month coming off the bench due to an injury he sustained in Dortmund’s DFB-Pokal match against TSV 1860 Munich. After criticism from fans and pundits alike regarding his form and fitness, Süle seems to have put those concerns to rest with a solid performance manning the backline for Dortmund today. The big German was confident in both his challenges and while on the ball, and played a key part in the opening goal by winning the ball back and venturing forward to find Brandt who then found Reus for the goal.

Nico Schlotterbeck (6.5/10)

Schlotterbeck has been far-and-away the most consistent performer for Borussia Dortmund this season. Today was another example of just how composed and skilled the twenty-two-year old defender is as he once again helped lead BVB to a clean sheet. Although the focus will probably be on Süle’s return to fitness and his impressive performance today, we shouldn’t overlook just how important Schlotterbeck was not only for the win today, but for Borussia Dortmund all season to this point.

Thomas Meunier (4/10)

Just when it seemed like Thomas Meunier might be regaining his place in the starting XI for good, he goes out and shows why he lost his spot in the first place. Meunier has certainly had worse games than today, but he struggled to get anything going for him today. The Belgian did have a couple of positive moments, such as the low cross into the box that both Reus and Modeste whiffed on that should have been a goal. But that was overshadowed by his overall poor display, including that absolutely atrocious excuse for a cross that he hammered into the stands in the first half.
