Report: Borussia Dortmund planning to offer contract extensions to Marco Reus and Mats Hummels
Borussia Dortmund are reportedly planning to offer one-year contract extensions to both Marco Reus and Mats Hummels.
Borussia Dortmund will have a number of important decisions to make in the next few months, with the contracts of several key players set to expire at the end of the season. Two players with expiring contracts are Marco Reus and Mats Hummels. And SportBILD claim that the BVB captain and vice-captain are expected to receive one-year contract extensions.
The magazine adds that no concrete negotiations have taken place yet with Reus or Hummels. However, the BVB bosses have internally decided to offer contract extensions to both players. Although they may well have to make do with a lower base salary, as part of the club’s approach to give players higher bonuses instead as a reward for strong performances in the future.
Both players have made strong starts to the season for Borussia Dortmund. Hummels has established himself as one of the team’s most important players this season, rolling back the years with some of his performances in defence. While Reus, who is closing in on his return from an ankle injury, has three goals and four assists to his name in just ten appearances so far this season.
Borussia Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl said in July that Marco Reus and Mats Hummels have helped shape the club in recent years. He added that the club is taking a very relaxed approach to the duo’s contract situation at the moment. Reus said in April that he would like to stay at Borussia Dortmund until the end of his playing career.
