Edin Terzic: Ansgar Knauff will return to Borussia Dortmund in the summer
Edin Terzic has said that the plan is for Ansgar Knauff to return to Borussia Dortmund after his loan spell with Eintracht Frankfurt ends in the summer.
With his minutes at Borussia Dortmund limited under then coach Marco Rose, Ansgar Knauff decided to join Eintracht Frankfurt on an 18-month loan deal in January. The wide player’s loan spell is set to come to an end at the end of the current season, and Edin Terzic is already looking forward to his return.
During his pre-match press conference ahead of Borussia Dortmund’s Bundesliga clash against Eintracht Frankfurt, Terzic said:
"“I’ve known him for a long time. He made the first starting XI appearances when I was in charge the first time. He performed superbly, was in the starting XI in both games against Manchester City. After that, he didn’t get that many minutes, so he was loaned out.”“He is currently injured. I visited him frequently during my time as technical director. We still have good contact today. We’ll take care of the rest in the summer. The clear plan is for him to return to us in the summer.”"
Ansgar Knauff made an immediate impact after joining Eintracht Frankfurt in January and played a crucial role in their UEFA Europa League triumph last season.
The Germany U-21s international established himself as a regular starter for the Eagles at right wing-back and scored vital goals against FC Barcelona and West Ham United en route to the final. He was even named the UEFA Europa League Young Player of the Season on the back of his impressive performances last season.
Knauff made an encouraging start to this season as well. But he is currently sidelined with a thigh injury. The 20 year old has made a total of 32 appearances across all competitions for Eintracht Frankfurt so far, scoring three goals and assisting a further three.
Eintracht Frankfurt are interested in keeping Ansgar Knauff at the club beyond the end of the season. But the chances of that happening appear to be highly unlikely. Knauff still has 18 months left on his current contract with Borussia Dortmund.
