Youssoufa Moukoko reveals contact with Hansi Flick as he emerges as a World Cup option for Germany
Youssoufa Moukoko has revealed that he has been in contact with Hansi Flick, amid claims that he is an option for Germany’s squad for the FIFA World Cup.
Hansi Flick is set to announce the Germany squad for the FIFA World Cup next week and Youssoufa Moukoko appears to be in with a chance of getting called up. The Borussia Dortmund striker has been in excellent form of late. And after scoring two goals during his side’s 3-0 win over VfL Bochum on Saturday, he revealed that he had a conversation with the Germany head coach earlier this week.
"“Records are there to be broken,” Moukoko said after the game. “I’m incredibly happy, but I also have the team to thank for it. Without them, I wouldn’t have scored these goals.”[On Hansi Flick and a potential Germany call-up for the World Cup] “We spoke on Thursday. He said that I should just keep performing like this, they’re watching everything and in the end whoever performs will be there. I can’t influence it, I can only perform. In the end, the national team coach will decide. On Thursday, we will see who is in.”"
With Timo Werner set to miss the World Cup due to injury, Germany appear to be short of options in the strikers department. And Moukoko could well be a serious candidate to replace the RB Leipzig striker in the squad for the tournament in Qatar.
Moukoko has six goals and four assists to his name in just 12 Bundesliga appearances so far this season. The 17 year old is averaging a goal or an assist every 58 minutes in the league this season. And on Saturday, he became the youngest player in Bundesliga history to reach the 11 goal mark.
Youssoufa Moukoko has shown in recent weeks that he is capable of making an impact at the biggest stage despite his young age. It remains to be seen if he will be selected in the Germany squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup. But based on the form he is in at the moment, he certainly deserves to be in the squad.
