Thomas Meunier has been named in the Belgium squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup after recovering from the cheekbone fracture he suffered last month.
Belgium have announced their 26-man squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup and Borussia Dortmund duo Thomas Meunier and Thorgan Hazard will both be making the trip to Qatar.
Thomas Meunier suffered a cheekbone fracture last month and was considered a doubt for the World Cup as a result. But he has recovered in time and will now look to help his national team win the World Cup for the first time in their history. The 31 year old will be aiming to start for Belgium at right wing-back.
Thorgan Hazard has also been called up by Belgium head coach Roberto Martinez. And the Borussia Dortmund winger’s versatility will no doubt make him a valuable option to have in the squad.
Former Borussia Dortmund duo Axel Witsel and Michy Batshuayi have also been named in the Belgium squad. Belgium will face Canada, Morocco and Croatia in the group stage of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel is also headed to Qatar after being called up by Switzerland for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Gio Reyna will be representing the United States men’s national team in Qatar. And Jude Bellingham has been named in England’s World Cup squad.
England and the USMNT are in the same World Cup group, along with Iran and Wales. While Switzerland will go up against Cameron, Brazil and Serbia in the group stage.
