Borussia Dortmund have announced that Anthony Modeste underwent groin surgery on Wednesday evening, having struggled with the issue for several weeks.

Anthony Modeste successfully underwent a planned groin operation on Wednesday evening, Borussia Dortmund have announced. The groin issue had been affecting him for several weeks, and even hindered him during training and matches. So it was decided that he would undergo surgery.

In a statement on the club’s website, Modeste said that he will now start his rehab so he can be fully fit and ready to go when the Bundesliga makes its return in the new year.

It has been a difficult season so far for Anthony Modeste, who joined Borussia Dortmund from FC Köln on a one year contract in the summer. He has managed to score just two goals in 20 appearances for Edin Terzic’s side. Although one of his goals was a last minute equaliser against Bayern Munich, and the other proved to be the winner against Hertha Berlin.

Modeste has fallen behind Youssoufa Moukoko in the pecking order for strikers at Borussia Dortmund. And with his contract set to expire at the end of the season, it is unlikely that he will stay at the club beyond the summer.

With Borussia Dortmund’s next competitive game still more than two months away, it is unlikely that Anthony Modeste will be forced to miss any matches. But he will definitely have to miss the Black and Yellows’ upcoming Asia tour, which will see them play three friendly matches.
