Injuries to key players

With injury talks surrounding Borussia Dortmund for the past few seasons it is interesting to see that four of the returning key players: Gregor Kobel, Mats Hummels, Jude Bellingham and Marco Reus have been fairly healthy over this period.

Unfortunately, Marco Reus is the one exception here and has been forced to miss the 2022 FIFA World Cup as a result of the ankle injury he suffered in September. Jude Bellingham, who at times seems like he has no regard for human life (his own or others), has surprisingly only missed one match through injury over the course of the last two seasons.

Quick hits

  • The only match Jude Bellingham has missed over the last two seasons was due to knee issues on matchday 13 last season – Borussia Dortmund were still able to beat Wolfsburg.
  • Julian Brandt, another player often criticised for his fitness issues, has been available for every match this season.
  • Mahmoud Dahoud has missed 27 of 46 possible matches due to two shoulder related injuries.
  • After missing the first two games of the season, Salih Özcan has not missed a single one since then.
  • Nico Schlotterbeck, another summer arrival, has not missed a single match due to injury so far this season.
  • At this point of last season, Marco Reus had only missed one match.
