BVB internationals: Jude Bellingham, Gio Reyna through to the World Cup last 16
By Tushar Bahl
Jude Bellingham and Gio Reyna will both be playing in the last 16 of the 2022 FIFA World Cup after England and the USMNT qualified for the knockout rounds on Tuesday.
England secured top spot in Group B of the 2022 FIFA World Cup on Tuesday evening after cruising to a 3-0 win over Wales. Second half goals from Marcus Rashford (x2) and Phil Foden helped the Three Lions qualify for the last 16. A tricky test against Senegal now awaits Jude Bellingham and co. in the next round.
Bellingham started for England once again and delivered another impressive performance in midfield. He also came close to scoring his second goal of the 2022 FIFA World Cup late in the game.
The United States also booked their place in the World Cup round of 16 by seeing off the challenge of Iran. Facing a must-win game, the USMNT made a strong start to the game and took the lead in the first half through former Borussia Dortmund winger Christian Pulisic. Iran looked to mount a comeback after the break, but Gregg Berhalter’s side managed to hang on for the win.
Gio Reyna was an unused substitute once again for the United States, as his surprising lack of playing time continued at the World Cup. The Borussia Dortmund attacking midfielder has made just one appearance so far in Qatar, coming on as a late substitute against England.
The USMNT’s reward for their win over Iran is a round of 16 clash against the Netherlands, who won Group A after winning two and drawing one of their group stage games.
