Borussia Dortmund are planning to travel to the United States next summer in preparations for the 2023/24 season.
We are not even at the half-way mark of the 2022/23 season but preparations are already underway for next summer. Borussia Dortmund are planning to go to the United States for a pre-season tour.
Borussia Dortmund managing director Carsten Cramer told Ruhr Nachrichten that they already have plans in place to make the trip to the USA ahead of 2023/24 season. In addition, the Black and Yellows are also seriously considering opening a foreign office in New York. Cramer believes that there are many reasons for the club to expand their reach and presence in the United States.
"“As things stand, we’re planning a tour to the US in the summer. We have a very popular USMNT player in Gio Reyna in the squad, the topic of women’s football is very big there, and the 2026 World Cup is just around the corner. There are many reasons for us to be even more present and active in the US.”"
Borussia Dortmund are just coming off a successful mid-season tour to Asia. The players not involved at the 2022 FIFA World Cup traveled to Singapore, Malaysia and Vietnam as part of the 10-day trip.
Edin Terzic’s side played friendly matches against the Lion City Sailors, Johor Darul Ta’zim and the Vietnam national team. And tens of thousands of fans got to see some of their favourite players in action live at the stadiums. According to Ruhr Nachrichten, the trip also helped BVB earn a profit of around 2.5 million euros.
Borussia Dortmund last traveled to the United States in 2019, when they played Seattle Sounders and Liverpool. But they haven’t been able to embark on a pre-season tour for the last three summers due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Concrete plans for the 2023 pre-season tour will likely be revealed in the coming months.
