Borussia Dortmund are reportedly interested in signing Ellyes Skhiri on a free transfer next summer, with the midfielder set to leave FC Köln at the end of the season.

The summer transfer window is still six months away but rumours are already in full swing. Borussia Dortmund are said to be interested in signing Ellyes Skhiri, who will be out of contract at the end of the season. According to the Express, the Black and Yellows are a strong contender in the race for Skhiri. But clubs from England and France (including Olympique Lyonnais) are also said to be keen on the defensive midfielder.

Skhiri was also linked with a move to Borussia Dortmund last summer, as they looked to sign a defensive midfielder to replace Axel Witsel. But Sebastian Kehl and co. decided to sign his teammate Salih Özcan instead. Now the two midfielders could potentially reunite at BVB next season. BVB also signed Anthony Modeste from FC Köln in August.

It remains to be seen how real Borussia Dortmund’s interest is in Ellyes Skhiri. But the 27 year old is enjoying another impressive season with FC Köln. He has been ever-present in the Billy Goats’ midfield, and also did well for Tunisia at the recently concluded FIFA World Cup. And Edin Terzic’s side could certainly do with some added depth in midfield.

Skhiri’s contract with FC Köln is set to expire at the end of the season. And FC Köln head coach Steffen Baumgart told the Express that the chances of him signing a contract extension are very slim.
