Anthony Modeste could return to FC Köln on a free transfer in the summer when his contract with Borussia Dortmund expires.

Anthony Modeste only joined Borussia Dortmund from FC Köln in August. But the Billy Goats are already said to be internally considering bringing him back to the club next summer. This is being reported by BILD, who add that a return to his former club is not completely out of the question for the veteran striker.

Borussia Dortmund signed Modeste from FC Köln on a one-year deal last summer following Sebastien Haller’s cancer diagnosis. But the Frenchman has found it hard to get going in Dortmund. He has managed to find the back of the net on just two occasions in 20 appearances across all competitions for the Black and Yellows so far. And he also been replaced as the team’s first-choice striker by Youssoufa Moukoko.

It is highly unlikely that Borussia Dortmund will look to extend Modeste’s stay at the club beyond the end of the season. And a return to his former club could offer him with the opportunity to continue to play at the top level.

FC Köln have struggled for goals this season in Anthony Modeste’s absence. And it is no secret that the 34 year old has a great relationship with FC Köln head coach Steffen Baumgart. Modeste, who is currently recovering from the groin surgery he underwent last month, scored 79 goals in 157 appearances across two spells for FC Köln before his move to Borussia Dortmund.
