Jude Bellingham joined Borussia Dortmund in 2020 despite receiving better financial offers from Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Chelsea.

Borussia Dortmund beat out competition from a number of big clubs to secure the signature of Jude Bellingham in 2020. And the move has worked out brilliantly for both parties. Bellingham has established himself as one of the best young midfielders in the world, and is one of BVB’s most important players.

After a breakthrough season with hometown club Birmingham City, Bellingham made the very brave decision to move to Germany as a 17 year old despite receiving better offers from English Premier League clubs.

Former Birmingham City CEO Xuandong Ren has revealed that several clubs in England were prepared to offer Bellingham a lot more money. But he decided to join Borussia Dortmund because he felt it was the best place for him to develop as a player. In an interview with Mundo Deportivo, Ren said:

"“Manchester United made the biggest offer compared to all others. We sat down to talk about how to convince Bellingham, but Jude didn’t make any decisions based on money. They were offering much more compared to the rest, twice as much. He was guaranteed millions, but he didn’t take it.”"

Ren also revealed that Bellingham was always set on joining Borussia Dortmund. But just as he was about to sign with the Black and Yellows, Bayern Munich made a last-ditch attempt to hijack the move.

"“Until the last day, when he was going to sign with Dortmund, I got a call from his father asking me to put the signing on hold. Bayern was trying to raise the offer at the last minute. They were offering so much money to him. Bellingham has never had money as a priority.”"
