Borussia Dortmund continue to struggle with Nico Schulz’s situation at the club, with the Ruhr side eager to move the player on.

Borussia Dortmund still seem to lack an answer to their dilemma with Nico Schulz, who has not played a major role in the club’s plans for some time now. The former Hoffenheim left back has been frozen out of the first team setup by Edin Terzić.

In August, Schulz was embroiled in an investigation regarding a domestic violence accusation. Since then, Schulz has not featured at all for the senior team. There were suggestions that Schulz may feature for the U-23 level in September, but the club’s main stance has been that they want to move the player on.

According to Bild, there were talks with Serie A club Lazio about a possible transfer. Unfortunately for Dortmund, the move seems to no longer be an option, with Lazio opting for another option at left back.

Schulz’s salary is significant for a player not taking part in any of Dortmund’s games as it sits at around 6 million a year. The player’s sale would be a great boost for the club who are looking to re-structure both in terms of personnel and wages.

Borussia Dortmund have been linked with numerous left backs with club stalwart Raphaël Guerreiro looking likely to leave on a free transfer in the summer. The main name linked with BVB for the starting position is Gladbach’s Ramy Bensebaini. A departure for Schulz would benefit both player and club. The money saved by his departure could be put towards  bringing in potential depth in the position and competition for Bensebaini instead.
