Marco Reus comments on Borussia Dortmund future
Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus has responded to rumors linking him with a move to Al-Nassr FC, per Ruhr Nachrichten.
When it comes to players that embody Borussia Dortmund, there is no player that does so better than Germany international and club captain Marco Reus. Since re-joining the Ruhr side in 2012, Reus has been Dortmund’s talisman on and off the pitch.
According to recent reports, the topic of the player’s contract has come up for debate, with Reus’ agent commenting on the interest from other clubs, stating that it is only natural that the player will be of interest to other club’s with his contract expiring in the summer. He also emphasized that Dortmund is “very close to the player’s heart.”
Reus recently opened up about the potential links. The player has emphasized that his main focus remains on staying healthy and performing on the pitch:
"“I have an advisor for that. For me, it’s important to stay healthy and complete the training camp here. The rest will be seen in the future. Of course, you look ahead and I only have six months left on my contract. It would be wrong not to worry about that. But the focus is completely on something else right now.”"
It is very hard to imagine Borussia Dortmund without their mercurial captain. Reus has, when fit, been the very face of Dortmund. Despite having offers from other top clubs over the course of his career, the German international has instead done everything possible to remain loyal to his boyhood club. This sort of loyalty is rare in football these days, and one would expect that Dortmund will honor his long term commitment with a deal worthy of his career-long efforts for the club.
With the club currently attempting to re-structure their wage budget, Reus may be forced to take a pay cut moving forward. One hopes that the contract is still well tailored to the quality Reus still brings to the pitch for his club.
