Sébastien Haller has said that he hopes to be in the squad for Borussia Dortmund’s first game of the new year in two weeks’ time.
Just six months after being diagnosed with testicular cancer, Sébastien Haller is back in training and is working towards his return to action. The Ivory Coast international is currently with the Borussia Dortmund squad at their mid-season training camp in Marbella, where he spoke about his chances of being ready to play against FC Augsburg on January 22.
During the media round on Monday, Haller said:
"“Of course anything is possible. I’ve got no limits in my mind. The only people who can put limits on me are the coach and the medical staff. But I will do my best to be ready and in the best shape I can be on January 22 against Augsburg… There’s nowhere I’d rather be than on the pitch.”"
Borussia Dortmund have stated on a number of occasions that they will give Haller all the support and time he needs to recover from his illness. The striker had to undergo two operations and a chemotherapy treatment. But he is now happy to be back on the training pitch and is looking forward to playing in front of the Yellow Wall soon.
"“It’s something I’ve had in my mind since the first day of my diagnosis. I want to play in front of the Yellow Wall and in this stadium. That’s the big goal I set for myself.”"
Sébastien Haller has already been working hard on the pitch and is making a strong impression in training. And Marco Reus said on Sunday that everyone in the team is delighted to have him back on the pitch.
The 28 year old, who joined Borussia Dortmund from AFC Ajax last summer for a club record transfer fee, will be eager to make his Bundesliga debut in the second half of the season. His first appearance for the Black and Yellows could come as early as Tuesday, with BILD reporting that Haller could feature in his side’s mid-season friendly match against Fortuna Düsseldorf.
