Thomas Meunier suffers thigh injury in training
Borussia Dortmund right-back Thomas Meunier faces a spell on the sidelines after suffering a thigh injury in training.
Borussia Dortmund have received their first injury blow of the new year, with Thomas Meunier suffering a thigh injury. According to Ruhr Nachrichten, the Belgian international was spotted walking with crutches in Marbella on Thursday. He suffered the injury in training on Thursday morning and will now undergo further tests to determine the severity of the injury.
Meunier’s injury is a big blow for Borussia Dortmund just ten days before their first Bundesliga game of the new year. The Black and Yellows are set to play three Bundesliga matches in an eight-day period this month, and the likelihood is that the 31 year old will not be available for any of those matches.
It has been a stop-start season so far for Thomas Meunier, who was forced to miss seven games in the first half of the season due to a cheekbone fracture. And now he is set for another spell on the sidelines. It currently remains to be seen how long Meunier will be sidelined for.
Right-back is a position where Borussia Dortmund have struggled with injuries on a number of occasions this season. Niklas Süle is likely to fill in for Meunier, much like he did in the first half of the season. Marius Wolf, Thorgan Hazard, and Felix Passlack are the other options available to Edin Terzic. While Mateu Morey is working his way back to full fitness after undergoing knee surgery in August.
