Borussia Dortmund have completed the signing of right-back Julian Ryerson from Union Berlin on a three and a half year contract.
Borussia Dortmund have reacted to Thomas Meunier’s injury by bringing in a new right-back. Union Berlin’s Julian Ryerson has joined the Black and Yellows after they met his release clause of five million euros.
The 25 year old underwent his medical tests on Tuesday before signing a three and a half year contract with Borussia Dortmund.
Julian Ryerson is primarily a right-back, but he is also capable of playing at left-back or as a wing-back. The Norwegian international has been enjoying an impressive season with Union Berlin, who are currently fourth in the Bundesliga standings. Brighton and Hove Albion and a number of clubs in Italy were also interested in signing him. But Borussia Dortmund have won the race for his signature.
Ryerson could make his Borussia Dortmund debut this weekend as they take on FC Augsburg in their first Bundesliga game of the new year. His arrival will give Edin Terzic’s side some much needed depth at right-back, with Thomas Meunier set to be sidelined for the next six weeks and Mateu Morey still recovering from his knee injury.
Ryerson joined Union Berlin from Viking FK in 2018 and has established himself as one of the top full-backs in the Bundesliga over the last 18 months. He has made a total of 109 appearances for the Berliners. And now he joins Borussia Dortmund, where he will hope to take the next big step in his career.
