Borussia Dortmund could react to Thomas Meunier’s injury by signing a new right-back
Borussia Dortmund may look to sign a new right-back this month, with Thomas Meunier set to be sidelined for up to six weeks.
Borussia Dortmund received their first major injury blow of the new year last week after Thomas Meunier suffered a torn muscle fibre in his calf. Sport1 claim that the Belgian international could now be sidelined for a period of up to six weeks. And the Black and Yellows are now considering bringing in a new right-back to replace him on a temporary basis.
The report adds that the BVB bosses are currently sounding out the market in search of potential options. Borussia Dortmund could look to bring in an experienced right-back, possibly on loan, before the end of the January transfer window.
Thomas Meunier’s injury has left Borussia Dortmund with a lack of options at right-back. Edin Terzic is likely to go with Niklas Süle at right-back in Meunier’s absence. Marius Wolf and Thorgan Hazard can also play in that role, although they are not right-backs by trade. While Felix Passlack has hardly been used this season, and Mateu Morey is still working on his comeback from injury.
It will be interesting to see if Borussia Dortmund do indeed look to bring in a new right-back before the transfer window closes. BVB have a number of big games coming up over the next six weeks, including the first leg of their UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie against Chelsea, and the DFB-Pokal round of 16 clash against VfL Bochum.
