The Bundesliga makes its long-awaited return this weekend, and first up for Borussia Dortmund is a home game against FC Augsburg.

Borussia Dortmund will be eager to make a winning start to 2023 as they take on FC Augsburg at the Signal Iduna Park this weekend. The Black and Yellows find themselves in sixth place in the Bundesliga standings going into the second half of the season. And they will be determined to close the gap to league leaders Bayern Munich in the coming weeks.

Edin Terzic revealed during his pre-match press conference on Friday that Sebastien Haller is available again after recovering from the testicular cancer that forced him to miss the first half of the season. The Ivory Coast international is expected to make his competitive debut for Borussia Dortmund on Sunday.

Thomas Meunier and Mateu Morey are injured and will miss the game against FC Augsburg, so new signing Julian Ryerson could slot in at right-back straight away. Marco Reus (ill), Emre Can (knock), Mahmoud Dahoud and Anthony Modeste (back in training after long-term injuries) are all doubts ahead of the game.

Augsburg will be without Mergim Berisha, who is suspended after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season before the winter break. Iago, Andre Hahn, Reece Oxford and Tobias Strobl are currently sidelined with injuries. New signings Kelvin Yeboah and Dion Drena Beljo could start up front for the Bavarian side.

Former Borussia Dortmund II head coach Enrico Maaßen will go up against his former employers for the first time since joining FC Augsburg in the summer.
