Edin Terzic is backing new signing Julian Ryerson to play a crucial role for Borussia Dortmund after joining the club from Union Berlin.
Borussia Dortmund moved swiftly to sign Julian Ryerson earlier this week, with the right-back joining the club from Union Berlin for a transfer fee of five million euros. And BVB head coach Edin Terzic is looking forward to working with the Norwegian international.
During his press conference ahead of Borussia Dortmund’s Bundesliga clash against FC Augsburg, Terzic said:
"“We are very pleased that Julian has decided to join us. I took an early liking to him and his style of play. He plays with great intensity and is always dangerous when he’s on the offensive as well. That’s what sets him apart.”“I am certain that he will help the team in the second half of the season and beyond.”"
Borussia Dortmund made the decision to sign Julian Ryerson after Thomas Meunier suffered a torn muscle fibre in his calf. The Belgian international will now be sidelined for several weeks, and Ryerson will have a key role to play in his absence.
Ryerson is set make his Borussia Dortmund debut against FC Augsburg in the Bundesliga on Sunday. And he could even slot straight into the starting XI.
Borussia Dortmund have found it very difficult to replace Lukasz Piszczek since the legendary right-back’s retirement from professional football in 2021.
Thomas Meunier has not been able to make much of an impression, while Mateu Morey has been forced to deal with a number of long-term injuries. And the hope will be that the arrival of Ryerson can now finally bring an end to the uncertainty at right-back.
Julian Ryerson showed with his performances for Union Berlin that he is more than capable of playing at the top level. And now the 25 year old will be eager to make a similar impact at Borussia Dortmund.
