Sebastian Kehl: Julian Brandt has taken a giant step forward this season
By Tushar Bahl
Sebastian Kehl has heaped praise on Julian Brandt, saying that the playmaker has taken a giant step forward in his development this season.
Julian Brandt is enjoying his best season in a Borussia Dortmund shirt, and has established himself as an invaluable part of the team in recent months. The attacking midfielder’s performances have been crucial to his side’s upturn in form since the turn of the year. And Sebastian Kehl has said that they are delighted about Brandt’s excellent recent performances.
In an interview with BILD, the Borussia Dortmund sporting director also shed light on Brandt’s contract situation.
"“We are seeing Julian’s development every day. He’s taken a giant step forward – and we’re very happy about that. I’m aware of the contract situation, of course, and we’re approaching the issue in a very positive and relaxed manner.”"
There are less than 18 months left on Julian Brandt’s current contract with Borussia Dortmund. The 26 year old said last month that he is happy at BVB, but added that he is not thinking about his future at the moment.
It was reported earlier this month that the BVB bosses are ready to extend his contract, but talks are unlikely to begin before the end of the season.
Brandt has scored eight goals and assisted a further five in 29 appearances across all competitions for Borussia Dortmund so far this season. He has also been ever-present in the team, and only Nico Schlotterbeck has made more appearances for the Black and Yellows this season.
Julian Brandt has found the back of the net in each of Borussia Dortmund’s last three Bundesliga matches. And he will be aiming to keep that run going this weekend as Edin Terzic’s side make the trip to TSG Hoffenheim.
