Borussia Dortmund have shown interest in BSC Young Boys midfielder Fabian Rieder, according to reports by Blick. The player has also indicated his interest in joining the Bundesliga.

Midfield is quickly becoming a position of focus for Borussia Dortmund with Mahmoud Dahoud set to leave this summer and the future of Jude Bellingham still unclear. While it seems that Dortmund have already begun their rebuild in the middle of the park by seeking to complete the free transfer of Eintracht Frankfurt’s Daichi Kamada, the Ruhr club have also been linked with a variety of other players to help bolster the squad.

One such player is Young Boys midfielder Fabian Rieder. The Switzerland international, (capped two times for his country so far), has had a very strong season for his club in the Swiss Super League, playing an instrumental role in the success that they are currently enjoying. The Swiss club have a comfortable 13 point lead at the top of the table, and just recently picked up a 5-0 victory in the Swiss cup quarterfinals against FC Thun; a game that Rieder himself was heavily involved in.

Across all competitions, Rieder has 5 goals and 8 assists in 28 appearances for Young Boys, with 5 of those goal contributions coming in the Swiss cup across 3 appearances (1 goal and 4 assists). These numbers exemplify not only Rieder’s ability to find the back of the net, but his propensity to be a creative outlet for his side.

Rieder has a keen eye for a pass that allows him to play his teammates in on goal from a variety of angles. His through balls often cut open opposition defenses, allowing his teammates to capitalize and score. His link up play is calm and collected, and his positioning is often calculated, allowing him to make a nuisance of himself in the opposition half quite frequently. He excels in terms of key passes (1.93 per 90 min) and crosses (3.8 per 90 min) which further underlines his creative qualities. Defensively, Rieder seems quite capable and willing to put in a tackle, with the midfielder amassing 2.55 tackles per 90 minutes played as well.

While Borussia Dortmund have reportedly shown interest, a number of other Bundesliga sides have done so as well, with the likes of Gladbach, Leverkusen and Hoffenheim also keen on obtaining his services. Bayern Munich were also linked with the player this past summer, but a move did not materialize due to Rieder signing a contract extension with Young Boys at the time. If Rieder continues to perform however, they too may enter the race and increase the level of competition for his signature.
