Edin Terzic gives Karim Adeyemi injury update ahead of Chelsea clash
Karim Adeyemi is closing in on his return to training. But it remains to be seen if he will be fit for the second leg of Borussia Dortmund’s Champions League last 16 tie against Chelsea.
Borussia Dortmund received a big blow during their Bundesliga clash against Hertha Berlin last month as Karim Adeyemi picked up a hamstring injury. The Black and Yellows revealed then that the forward would be out for around three weeks. But Edin Terzic is hopeful that they will not have to make do without Adeyemi for much longer.
During his press conference ahead of Borussia Dortmund’s Bundesliga clash against RB Leipzig, Terzic revealed that Adeyemi will start training with the ball again in the coming days.
"“With the form he was in, he would be missed by any team. We hope that we will not have to make do without him for much longer.”“We don’t know yet if he will be able to play against Chelsea. He will start working with the ball either tomorrow or the day after. Then he will start training with the team. We’ll see when he can play again.”"
It appears that Adeyemi will face a race against time to be fit for Borussia Dortmund’s trip to London to take on Chelsea next Tuesday.
The 21 year old scored the winning goal in the first leg of the Chelsea tie, and had been in excellent form before suffering his injury. Having him back in the squad for the second leg would no doubt be a boost to BVB’s hopes of making it to the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League. But Borussia Dortmund will also look to make sure that they do not rush him back into action.
Karim Adeyemi has scored six goals and assisted a further three in 24 appearances for Borussia Dortmund across all competitions so far this season. Six of his goal involvements have come since the turn of the year.
