Marius Wolf: I never expected to earn a Germany call-up

Borussia Dortmund right-back Marius Wolf has admitted that he never expected to be called up to the Germany national team squad.
Marius Wolf earned a surprise call-up to the Germany squad for their upcoming friendly matches against Peru and Belgium. The Borussia Dortmund right-back has been in excellent form since the turn of the year, and his performances also helped him make a big impression on Hansi Flick.
The Germany head coach was full of praise of Wolf earlier this week. And the 27 year old has now said that he never expected to be called up to the Germany squad. During Wednesday’s press conference, Wolf said that he is determined to give 100% every time he steps out on the pitch for both Borussia Dortmund and Germany.
"“I never expected to become a national team player one day. But everyone’s career takes a different path,” Wolf said. “I always want to help the team – here and in Dortmund. I always want to give 100% on the pitch, no matter what position I’m in. I always try to perform at my highest level.”"
Marius Wolf joined Borussia Dortmund from Eintracht Frankfurt in 2018. For a long time, it appeared that his future would lie away from the club. And he also spent two seasons out on loan before making his breakthrough with the Black and Yellows. But the boyhood BVB fan kept believing in himself, and has now established himself as the team’s first-choice right-back.
The versatile wide player is in the form of his life at the moment, and the Germany call-up is a well deserved reward for all his hard work. Wolf could make his Germany debut as they take on Peru on Saturday, and his next aim will be to make himself a regular part of Hansi Flick’s plans ahead of next year’s European Championships.
