Marco Reus was left frustrated by Borussia Dortmund’s poor performance in the final third as they were eliminated from the DFB-Pokal on Wednesday.

Borussia Dortmund’s bid to win the DFB-Pokal ended abruptly on Wednesday as they suffered a 2-0 defeat away to RB Leipzig. Edin Terzic’s side never really managed to get a foothold on the game, and defending champions Leipzig took full advantage to book their place in the semifinals of the DFB-Pokal.

It was a sobering evening for Borussia Dortmund, who delivered one of their most passive displays of the season so far. The Black and Yellows failed to create any real chances until the 97th minute, and they were made to pay for their lack of quality in the final third.

Marco Reus felt that BVB did not cause the Leipzig defenders any problems after making a slow start to the game. The club captain also lamented the fact that they missed out on what was a big opportunity to win the DFB-Pokal title this season. In an interview with ZDF after the game, Reus said:

"“In the first half, Leipzig devoured us. We were able to stabilize it a bit after the break. But we created little to no good opportunities over 90 minutes. When there are only two games left until the final, that’s not good enough.”“We never managed to get into good spaces or behind the Leipzig defence, didn’t manage to get settled in their half or cause any problems. We left too much space and and Leipzig had an incredible number of counter-attacking opportunities, just like Bayern on Saturday. It was not a good game.”"

Borussia Dortmund have now been eliminated from the UEFA Champions League and the DFB-Pokal. And their hopes of winning the Bundesliga title this season also hang in the balance, with Bayern Munich two points clear heading into the final eight matchdays of the season.
