Borussia Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck could face significant time on the sidelines
Borussia Dortmund and Germany defender Nico Schlotterbeck could be set for a longer injury lay-off, per Bild.
Borussia Dortmund will have to grapple with more injury woes going into the last five games of the Bundesliga season as Germany international Nico Schlotterbeck will possibly be sidelined for an extended period of time. The former Freiburg defender re-aggravated a tendon injury he initially picked up when Borussia Dortmund faced Bayern Munich at the start of the April.
This will be a bitter blow for Borussia Dortmund considering their current position in the table. The Ruhr club sit first with five games to go, and having Schlotterbeck along for the ride would have certainly made things easier on them.
Nico Schlotterbeck returned to the side in Borussia Dortmund’s 4-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt, but only for a brief stint. The German international was replaced by compatriot Niklas Süle before half time, and was clearly frustrated at the time.
Süle was not given a fully clean bill of health prior to that game either, with muscular issues having been an issue for the former Bayern Munich defender in the lead up to the clash with Die Adler.
Borussia Dortmund will have to be both creative and careful when it comes to their back line going into the final games of the season. This is as close as the club has been to winning a league title for 11 years, so nothing less than perfection will be needed from everyone going forward, and further injuries could prove costly should they occur.
