Borussia Dortmund look set to lose  English international midfielder Jude Bellingham this summer to La Liga giants Real Madrid.

The saga surrounding whether or not Jude Bellingham will stay at Borussia Dortmund this summer seems to be coming to its crescendo, with the English international seemingly ready to join Real Madrid at the end of this season. While various outlets have reported that the player has agreed personal terms, negotiations between the clubs are yet to begin in earnest.

These negotiations will likely take place over the coming weeks, with Borussia Dortmund holding out for a sum of 120-150 million euros; a financial figure that could be a major boost for the club’s continued rebuild under the guidance of Sporting Director Sebastian Kehl and head coach Edin Terzić. Bellingham initially signed For Dortmund in 2020 from Birmingham City and has gone on to become one of the club’s most crucial players over the course of his stint in black and yellow.

While Jude’s departure will of course be a blow for the club, it will also allow Kehl and co. to strengthen across multiple areas of the pitch, which may lead to a far more balanced squad for the coming season. Jude, on his part, has given his all for the club since joining die Schwarzgelben and his contributions have been valued by everyone associated with the club, both internally and externally in terms of the fans.

With Mahmoud Dahoud set to leave as well, midfield will continue to be a focal point of Dortmund’s rebuild with the likes of Conor Gallagher and Enzo Le Fée among the players linked to possibly fill the gaps as Dortmund deals with their midfield exodus. Dortmund will have to ensure their recruitment is strong so that they can remain a competitive force both domestically and in Europe.
