Borussia Dortmund are said to be pushing for the signature of Edson Álvarez, as they look to bolster their midfield ranks in the summer.

Borussia Dortmund are set to overhaul their midfield ranks in the summer transfer window, with Mahmoud Dahoud and possibly Jude Bellingham set to leave the club. The Black and Yellows have been linked with moves for a number of players in recent weeks. But one player who has seriously caught their interest is Ajax midfielder Edson Álvarez.

It was reported earlier this month that Álvarez is on Borussia Dortmund’s list of targets to replace Bellingham if he decides to leave the club in the summer. And Sky Sport now claim that BVB are pushing to sign the Mexico international. Talks between the BVB bosses and Álvarez’s representatives have already taken place.

The report adds that Ajax want a transfer fee in the region of 50 million euros (including bonuses) for Álvarez, and he is very likely to leave the Dutch giants in the summer transfer window.

Bayern Munich have also been linked with a move for Álvarez, but Sky Sport claim that he is not a concrete transfer target for the Bavarians at this stage.

Edson Álvarez joined Ajax in 2019 from Club América and has made a total of 144 appearances for them. The 25 year old is primarily a defensive midfielder, but is also capable of playing at centre-back. So he would certainly not be a direct replacement for Jude Bellingham if Borussia Dortmund end up signing him this summer.
