Player Analysis: What would Edson Álvarez bring to Borussia Dortmund?

Edson Álvarez has been heavily linked with Borussia Dortmund in the last few weeks, with the German club apparently keen on bring him to the Westfalenstadion.

With the summer transfer window now looming in the not so distant future, Borussia Dortmund will be looking to bolster their squad quite significantly in the coming months. Over the last couple of weeks, the amount of players suggested to be leaving the club has consistently been increasing.

What started as simply the likely departure of one Jude Bellingham and the nailed on departure of Mahmoud Dahoud has now extended to the possible departures of Mats Hummels and Raphaël Guerreiro, both of whom are key players in the squad. Add this to the already expected departures of Thomas Meunier, Ansgar Knauff, and Anthony Modeste, and you have quite a few areas of interest for the club to get into in the coming months.

The possible departure of Raphaël Guerreiro in addition to Bellingham and Dahoud has now made midfield in particular a far more pressing position than before.

With all three players faced with an exit, Borussia Dortmund will have to turn to the transfer market to identify possible targets. Ajax’s Edson Àlvarez has been increasingly linked with a move to Dortmund in recent weeks, with multiple sources claiming that the club have ramped up their interest significantly.
