Sebastien Haller scored a match-winning brace as Borussia Dortmund beat Augsburg 3-0 to go top in the Bundesliga standings with one game left to play this season.

Just 90 more minutes stand between Borussia Dortmund and history. The finish line is in sight and the Black and Yellows now need just one more win to end their agonising 11 year wait to lift the Meisterschale.

A brace from Sebastien Haller helped Borussia Dortmund earn a hard fought 3-0 win over Augsburg on Sunday, as they took full advantage of Bayern Munich’s slip-up to move to the top of the Bundesliga standings. Despite showing great defensive resolve for the most part, Augsburg weren’t able to do their local rivals a favour and BVB are now closing in on the Bundesliga title.

Edin Terzic made only one change to his starting XI, with Raphael Guerreiro replacing the injured Jude Bellingham in midfield. The in-form trio of Sebastien Haller, Donyell Malen and Karim Adeyemi started up front.

Buoyed by Saturday’s result at the Allianz Arena, Borussia Dortmund began the game on the front foot and created a host of decent chances in the first half. But they were left frustrated in front of goal time and time again, with Tomáš Koubek making crucial saves to deny Sebastien Haller and Julian Brandt in the first half.

Borussia Dortmund did receive a big boost in the 38th minute, as Felix Uduokhai was sent off for his foul on Donyell Malen.

The theme of the second half was more of the same, with Borussia Dortmund desperately trying to find a way past the resilient Augsburg defence.

The goal finally arrived in the 58th minute, and it was Sebastien Haller who found the back of the net. Haller showed great skill and determination to win the ball back inside the box before setting himself up and finding the bottom corner.

Augsburg tried to claw their way back into the game, and Borussia Dortmund had to survive a few scares before Haller scored again on the rebound to make sure of the win. Julian Brandt then added a third in stoppage time to add gloss to the scoreline, leaving BVB just 90 minutes away from realising their dream of winning the Bundesliga title.

Borussia Dortmund now hold their title fortunes in their own hands. A win at home to Mainz 05 next weekend will be enough to help them win the Bundesliga title, regardless of how Bayern Munich fare away to FC Köln.
