Jude Bellingham faces race against time to be fit for Mainz clash
Jude Bellingham is still struggling with his knee injury and remains a doubt for Borussia Dortmund’s final match of the season against Mainz 05 this weekend.
Borussia Dortmund will look to clinch the Bundesliga title this weekend as they go up against Mainz 05 at home. Edin Terzic’s side need three points against the 05ers on the final day of the season to win the Bundesliga title. And they may have to make do without Jude Bellingham for the game.
According to Ruhr Nachrichten, the England international missed Tuesday’s training session and now only has three more days to prove his fitness ahead of Saturday’s crunch clash.
Bellingham is dealing with a knee injury, which he picked up during the closing stages of Borussia Dortmund’s home game against Borussia Mönchengladbach earlier this month. He hasn’t been able to train with the team since, and also missed the trip to Augsburg last weekend.
The 19 year old has been ever-present for Borussia Dortmund this season, and the hope will be that he can recover from his injury in time for what will be the club’s most important game in years. Edin Terzic will likely give an update on Bellingham’s status during his pre-match press conference later this week.
Raphael Guerreiro started in Jude Bellingham’s absence against Augsburg on Sunday. And if Bellingham is unable to recover in time to face Mainz, the Portuguese international will likely start again in his stead. Marco Reus could also be in contention to feature in midfield after coming off the bench to great effect last weekend.
