With Mahmoud Dahoud leaving the club and the increasing possibility of Jude Bellingham doing the same, this area on the pitch desperately needs to be reinforced.

Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans is set to become available on a free transfer. The Belgian international is a creative, deep-lying midfielder who can add some much needed spark to the team’s offence as a direct replacement for Bellingham.

Another player that can be looked at is FC Barcelona’s Franck Kessie. It has been rumoured that Barcelona are willing to listen to offers for Kessie this summer and, given his back-to-back league winning seasons, the team can rely on his experience in the important games of the season.

Emre Can is currently Borussia Dortmund’s starting defensive midfielder, with Salih Özcan his understudy. The Turkish international did not have the best of debut seasons at BVB, and those in charge are looking to bolster their defensive midfield ranks with the signing of Ajax’s Edson Álvarez.

An alternative to Alvarez could be Everton midfielder Amadou Onana. The 21 year old could leave the Premier League side this summer. And while he could prove to be pricey, he has excellent potential and could marshal the BVB defence for years to come.
